Freiburg is closer to France and Switzerland than anywhere else in Germany and benefits from its location in a tri-border area. It is served by five international airports, the closest being EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg which is only about 40 miles south in France. 68 miles north, Baden-Airpark between Karlsruhe and Baden-Baden, is another popular option as are Zurich and Frankfurt airports (93 and 168 miles respectively), both with direct high-speed rail connections into Freiburg. Stuttgart airport is about 125 miles away. The city’s train station right in the centre is served by ICE high-speed trains and provides excellent connections. Getting around in Freiburg is easy and convenient. The centre is extremely walkable and there is an outstanding public transport system. Freiburg also offers many green mobility options such as e-bikes, segways, cycle rickshaws or e-cars.
Freiburg offers event organiser about 5,000 beds in 66 hotels and a variety of venues for different requirements. The city’s exhibition and conference centre, Messe Freiburg, is a state-of-the-art venue used for a wide range of events from congresses and trade fairs to large-scale public events. More than half a million visitors attend about 35 trade fairs per year. The Konzerthaus Freiburg is another modern venue, hosting more than 6,000 events each year. It benefits from a city centre location across the train station and offers an elegant concert as well as a conference hall. Organisers in search for historical surroundings should try the beautiful 16th century Merchants‘ Hall (Historisches Kaufhaus) which is located in the city’s old town. Behind a stunning red facade, a choice of halls provide atmospheric spaces for conferences, talks and receptions for 30 to 350 people.

A leisurely stroll through Freiburg’s picturesque old town is the perfect add-on to every event and a welcome breather. It’s the best way to experience the city’s almost Mediterranean atmosphere and see its most famous sights, starting with the stunning minster: With a 116-metre-tall spire, it is one of the oldest and most beautiful cathedrals in Europe. It is located on Freiburg’s largest square that hosts a wonderful market every day except Sundays. Further sights here are the Merchants‘ Hall, the Museum of Municipal History and the Haus der badischen Weine centre in a beautiful old guardhouse which is all dedicated to the region’s famous wines. Speaking of which, don’t miss exploring the vineyards surrounding Freiburg: With is mild temperatures and excellent soil, the local Baden Wine Region produces some of the best wines in Europe, and the Baden Wine Route is perfect for discovering Freiburg’s beautiful surroundings and the Black Forest.
