The Where, Who & How - Meeting Details
Munich's deep royal traditions, top notch shopping and dining, as well as the natural beauty of Bavaria created the perfect mix of experiences for Shelter's Champions. In addition, holding a meeting in Germany, a world leader in the Financial Services and Insurance industries, added to the trip’s appeal. Remarkably, Munich is the home of both Munich Re and Allianz SE, two of the world’s top ten largest insurance companies and was a perfect fit for the Champions. The city has more than 25,000 employees that work in the insurance industry and 50+ insurance companies are based in the Munich and surrounding townships.
Welcome, a Munich based destination management company, and Shelter's meeting planner partnered to create a Royal Incentive Trip spanning all across Bavaria. Upon arrival, the Champions were greeted with a brunch at the top of the Hilton Munich Park followed by walking tours in the English Garden. Later that evening they enjoyed a welcome reception with Bavarian food and live music in the hotel's grand ballroom. The hotel also played host to a number of meetings with the attendees and organizers, as well as several special receptions.
Welcome and Shelter's meeting planner developed a program that was steeped in the history and culture of Munich. The program showcased the Lowenbraukeller, a 130-year-old beer garden on the final night with a magnificent party set at this historic site. The evening was a highlight of the trip. For two nights in the middle of the program, attendees were shuttled to the Marienplatz, Munich’s most famous square in the heart of Old Town and Operahouse for evenings at their leisure, dining with friends and exploring the city center. Shelter provided dine around cash so that the Champions could experience Munich dining at it’s finest.
In addition, the group had their choice of excursions to some of the area’s most historic places including:
- Neuschwanstein Castle—known as a fairytale castle built by King Ludwig II in 1886 which attracts 1.3 million visitors a year
- Herrenchiemsee—King Ludwig II built this castle, modeled on Versailles, on an island in the Chiemsee, Bavaria's largest lake.
- Treasury of Royal Residence, Munich—the former royal palace of Bavarian Monarchs and the largest city palace in Germany
- City Tour of Munich
- Salzburg, Austria—Austria's 4th largest city standing beside the Salzach River, birthplace of Mozart, and storybook setting where the Sound of Music was based
The Wow – The Results & Destination Difference
While Shelter Mutual Insurance Company has taken the Conference of Champions to many fantastic locations around the globe, Munich continues to be one of the best. From the perspective of the attendee, the delicious local food & beverage, outstanding sites and experiences, combined with the wonderful people of the region--Munich will always be one of their favorite destinations.
Shelter's meeting planner acknowledged that the partnership with Welcome truly made the development of this destination a smooth and very productive process. The professionals at the hotel added to the depth of the team making the entire program a success from first arrival to final departure. The meeting planner was further impressed with the excellent choice of hotels, restaurants and venues in Munich, and the many different opportunities to sightsee that were only a short distance away. In addition, Munich is the second largest airport hub in Germany and offers 16 daily direct flights into US airports—making travel seamless for attendees.
“The Conference of Champions trip to Munich was one of the top trips in the 60 year history of this program. Our Agents pushed hard to qualify for the trip and stated that their expectations were far surpassed with the outstanding experiences they had in Munich,” said Joe Landers, meeting planner for Shelter Mutual Insurance Company.
