A year of anniversaries for Leipzig: old enough for new things

2015 is a special year for Leipzig, as the city is celebrating several historic dates at once

2015 is a special year for Leipzig, as the city is celebrating several historic dates at once: 1000 Years of Leipzig, 850 Years of Leipzig Trade Fairs and the 600th anniversary of the Leipzig Faculty of Medicine add up to a spectrum which unites the city’s great traditions with the modern age. The city scores particularly well with its industry expertise in medicine, biotechnology, automotive engineering, logistics, energy and eco-friendliness. This has of course affected the convention business and is attracting more and more large-scale events to this major city in Saxony. One important partner for the organisers and also a success factor is the convention initiative “Feel the spirit … do-it-at-leipzig.de”. This powerful network, led by Leipzig Tourismus und Marketing GmbH, involves the collaboration of nearly 50 suppliers such as conference centres, event locations, hotels and other contractors. The most recent member is KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo in Leipzig, a state-of-the-art conference centre in a historic building, situated in the very heart of the city and close to its numerous cultural and leisure facilities.
