Bonn Meeting Delegates Enjoy Gummy Bears & So Much More

Bonn is the home of Haribo, the makers of the ever-popular candy Gummy Bears, but for decades the city has also been known by meeting delegates and planners as a sweet place to meet.

“Born” in Bonn, Haribo’s Gummy Bears are indeed a global sensation that delight kids and grown-ups alike, but there’s much more to Bonn than meets the sweet tooth as global meeting goers and organizers already know.

Renowned for its role as the German host city for the UN, and former capitol of West Germany, Bonn is a prime location to come together for all kinds meetings, conferences and events.

Bursting with innovation, the Bonn area features over 200 institutions in science, technology and education -- ranging from the University of Bonn and the International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef … to CAESAR (Center of Advanced European Studies and Research,) the Fraunhofer-Institute, and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

Joining these respected institutions in Bonn are leading companies such as Deutsche Telekom (the main telecommunications company in Germany and parent company of T-Mobile) and Solar World (a solar panel producer.)

In turn, meeting planners can tap into Bonn-based expertise in telecommunications, renewable energy, information technology, logistics, R&D and health to add to enrich their programs with speakers, site visits and more.

In addition, Bonn’s meeting industry players are also continually working to reduce pressure on the environment. The “Sustainable Bonn” effort features more than 50 companies from the local hotel trade, catering, conference technology, transportation, and culture sectors working to make green meetings effective and affordable.

On the cultural side of things, Bonn is the birthplace of Beethoven with a museum honoring him there and the month of September dedicated to a music festival in his name. The Botanical gardens, the Old City Hall or one of Germany’s oldest churches in Bonn also provide places for a peaceful stroll or architecture gazing.

So with a rich political, cultural, international and business flavor there’s a lot waiting for meeting planners and delegates in Bonn. Not to mention a gummy bear or two.
