Tech Communicators Talk Content Creation at tcworld Conference 2016 Stuttgart

Stuttgart’s strong track record of innovation creates valuable delegate experiences - History, wellness & cars add to story

The Why - Executive Summary

Calling all innovation and content wonks, the largest, global conference and exhibition for Technical Communications – tekom-Jahrestagung and tcworld conference - took place for the third time in Stuttgart.

Technical communication is the process of defining, creating and delivering information products for the safe, efficient and effective use of products (technical systems, software, services).

With Stuttgart being a birthplace of everything from the four wheeled car and nano technology advancements … to e-mobility and environmental tech breakthroughs, Stuttgart has a historic and realtime tradition of creating world changing technology - making it a prime location for the tekom events.

Add the Swabian (a cultural and linguistic region of Southwest Germany) traits of industriousness and thriftiness and you’ve got a winner!

The Where, Who & How - Meeting Details

tekom-Jahrestagung and tcworld conference 2016 Stuttgart in November was a power-packed 3.5 day conference and exhibition -- part knowledge exchange, part networking and new business creation, and part innovation workshop.

4500 delegates (including several hundred students) and 170 exhibitors gathered at the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart from 48 countries. This was up from 4100 delegates from the first conference in Stuttgart in 2014.

This growth included US participation as both exhibitors and speakers with overall, hot topics at the conference and show ranging from global and localized digital content management, and cloud-based, and mobile device access … to augmented reality, visual design and quality assurance.

Tapping into the wellness and creative sides of the brain conference goers had the opportunity to take Shakti Naam yoga sessions, be part of a Doku Slam, and could also become part of the debut tekom All Star Band playing alongside professional performers.

Additionally, meeting goers did power networking over local history, food & drink with a tour of the medieval city of Esslingen and spending an evening in the Bohnenviertel, a late 15th century area of Stuttgart originally home to craftsmen and winemaker.

The Wow – The Results & Destination Difference

One of a kind experiences

Stuttgart once again delivered truly unique experiences for delegates including a visit to the brand new Future Work Lab at the Fraunhofer Institute IAO and MOTORWORLD.

tcworld 2016 delegates were one of the first groups to participate in 3 innovation courses at the Fraunhofer Future Work Lab in Stuttgart which is filled with thinkers and scientists working on how people and technology will work together in the future.  This location is part of one of four Fraunhofer locations in Stuttgart alone. Stuttgart also has two Max Planck Institutes, many universities, and scientific and corporate R&D labs pushing the future envelopes of technology.

Reflecting on cool technologies and design of the past, participants also visited the world renowned MOTORWORLD, the ultimate event venue and showroom for vintage and classic car and design lovers at Stuttgart’s old airport.

World Class Meeting Support on Strategy & on Budget

In working with the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart and the Stuttgart Convention Bureau tekom had a world class experience.

On the ICS front it was the third time working with them. Stuttgart was chosen by member vote for its excellent infrastructure and suitability and flexibility of space. Cornelia Ilg also particularly appreciated the excellent project skills of the ICS team, noting, “We, as always, received excellent support from the project managers at the ICS helping us implement a program that covered the items on our wish list, was very high quality and was as “cost-neutral” as possible -- helping us stick to our budget and our strategic goals.”

The Stuttgart Convention Bureau also provided valuable services to support the event, particularly in the hotel arrangements, Cornelia Ilg added.

“The Stuttgart Convention Bureau headed up our hotel efforts in support of the conference, saving us an incredible amount of time. They also staffed an information desk at the show to help our guests feel very much at home and provided support for our social program.”
