Vintage Cars Roll into Nuremberg for RETRO CLASSICS BAVARIA Show

The NürnbergMesse became nirvana for classic automotive enthusiasts in December 2017 as the 2nd annual RETRO CLASSICS® BAVARIA event rolled into the historic walled city in style.

Part upscale show room, part car club and restoration rally, part exhibition, and part automotive memorabilia, collectibles & parts market, the event was a magnet for the whole region.

Some unique wheels that created particular excitement included what are called NEO CLASSICS® which are less than 20 years old but are limited edition, one off or classic modern cars. The Mercedes SL 55 AMG, BMW Z3 M Coupé, McLaren SLR, Audi RS2, Smart Roadster, and the Ferrari F40 fell into this elite line up.

A regional sister event to the RETRO CLASSICS® Stuttgart (Europe’s largest classic car exhibition), RETRO CLASSICS BAVARIA grew this year in Nuremberg attracting throngs of car enthusiasts from around the region and beyond, and adding more exhibitors – 370 in all with the floor growing to from 332K ft2 to 430K ft2.

It also added new value in other ways.  For example, The Messe worked with show organizers and the city to have an onsite vehicle registration office so if you purchased a car at the event you could get your new vintage wheels right onto the road.

Further, live talks from car racing legends and music performances as well as showings of historic agricultural machinery, tractors, commercial vehicles, bikes and busses rounded out the 3 day fest.

Automotive Expertise Lives in Nuremberg

The automotive scene is right at home in Nuremberg with many companies in the region geared toward innovation in the automotive and mobility space including hybrid drives, engine construction, materials, accessories, automotive electronics and traffic guidance systems.

Bosch, for example, has operations in Nuremberg with an emphasis on using 3D printers to create prototype designs for things like injection systems for everyday rides and even Formula 1 engines.

Universities and R&D centers like the Fraunhofer Center for Automotive Power Electronics and Mechatronics can also be found in Nuremberg as well as the Merks Motor Museum featuring vintage cars from Model T’s to Bentleys and everything in between.
