Dynamic Digs: “Maritim Hotel Dresden & Congress Center Puts “Florence on the Elbe” at Attendee’s Fingertips

Perhaps not as widely known as some other German meeting cities, Dresden--  aka  “Florence on the Elbe” --  sits between Berlin and Prague and offers a strong art and architecture scene.

It also offers a great destination for meetings, conferences, and events welcoming up to 15,000 happenings for 1.35 million attendees annually.

The Maritim Hotel & International Congress Center Dresden located on the picturesque shores of the Elbe river, is one of the city’s leading meeting properties.

Here delegates soak in both the old and the new Dresden, with the hotel located in a lovingly restored, early 20th century warehouse …  directly connected to the flowing, state- of-the-art glass and steel International Congress Centre Dresden (ICD). Together they offer a unique hotel/conference center combo in Dresden.

On property, guests can expect spacious, well-appointed rooms & suites, terrific “wining” & dining options, fabulous views of the Dresden skyline and energizing or relaxing wellness, exercise and spa options … perhaps an Ayurvedic Massage (ancient Indian treatment with oils) can be worked into the agenda?

Then when it’s time to go to work, a weather-proof tunnel ushers guests to the ICD Dresden in a snap.

From a planners viewpoint the ICD Dresden offers a variety of spaces to choose from totaling over 8,700 sq.m (or 92,000 square feet) of usable space,  and accommodating up to 6,000 visitors. The design is meant to seem weightless and sweeping, filled with natural light and views of the river. Induction loops for the hearing impaired; full audio, video, lighting, WLAN networking technology; interpreting booths; and moveable room elements are available.

Architecture & Art At Your Doorstep… Some Shopping too!

When it’s time to step away from business or downtime, the city of Dresden and all it has to offer is literally at the feet of Maritim and ICD guests.

Known for its Baroque and Rococo architecture, the charming Old Town or “Altstadt” brings sights like the Royal Palace, the Zwinger palace, the Semper Opera House and the Frauenkirche (church.)   Museums also abound with over 30 in Dresden, featuring everything from crown jewels at the Royal Palace … to Raphael’s “Sistine Madonna” at the State Art Collections at the Zwinger palace (featuring two very famous angels gazing to the heavens that you’re sure to recognize). Contemporary art is found at the Ostrale.

If your attendees consider shopping an art form, there is plenty of that too. The main shopping area -- with the world’s leading fashion and tech brands -- stretches from the main train station up Pragger Strasse to the Royal Palace, and try the trendy Outer Neustadt district that is filled with quirky fine boutiques and charming shops.

Engaging Experiences

Panometer Dresden

After business or touring is done for the day, Maritim’s Catering staff can work with you to create memorable dinners, galas or events in unforgettable locations.  For example,  the Panometer Dresden  ( a former gas works built in 1879) hosts from 40 – 500 people in a large rotunda space featuring perfectly scaled 360o depictions of Dresden created by panorama artist Yadegar Asisi.

For something a little more traditional and just a quick ride from Dresden, the Proschwitz Castle (completed in 1706) is nestled in English and French landscape gardens and working vineyards, with its largest of several spaces -- the Bel Étage-- hosting up to 200 guests.

So if you are looking to try something a little different yet brimming with all the quality and culture and infrastructure you need and expect give Dresden a try.
