German hotels’ extensive hygiene and social distancing measures ensure the safe implementation of events in the “new normal”

GCB’s member hotels are well prepared for future events

The business events industry has reached its “new normal” – adequate safety and hygiene concepts as well as the compliance with the current legal framework have made events possible again. This also holds true for the German Convention Bureau’s member hotels, which have opened their doors again and are very much looking forward to hosting your events. Planners can count on the well-known quality as well as new concepts that have been developed in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. But what do safe events look like nowadays? This article aims at presenting a selection of some of our members’ safety and hygiene measures.

A mix of numerous measures ensures safe hotel stays

Hotels have expanded their regular procedures to include safety and hygiene measures with the goal of containing the coronavirus. Plexiglass shields, social distancing, staff wearing mouth-and-nose coverings as well as a sufficient number of disinfectant dispensers are the basis for check-in, restauration and room cleaning procedures. Hotels have also dedicated additional resources towards training their staff on the subject of hygiene. Radisson Hotels, for example, have started checking their staff’s and suppliers’ body temperatures with infrared thermometers. In order to keep physical contact to a minimum, member hotels, such as Fleming’s Hotels and Lufthansa Conference Hotel Seeheim, have started offering their guests to check in with a digital room key or smartphone. Wide corridors and spacious lobbies, as they can be found in the Maritim Hotels for example, ensure a minimum distance of 1.5 meters between guests at all times.

Room service, take away offers or pre-portioned meals are temporarily replacing the hotels’ traditional buffets. On top of that, chairs and tables in their restaurants have been re-arranged in accordance with the safe distancing regulations. Some restaurants have also limited their services for external guests.

On top of that, our partner hotels are working closely with doctors and insurance companies to provide adequate support in case of suspected coronavirus infections. One of these partnerships can be found in Accor’s cooperation with AXA.

New concepts for safe events

In accordance with the federal states' respective regulations, our partners have created appropriate concepts and offer a wide range of possibilities for hosting your event. In addition to generous seating plans - taking the required minimum safe distances into account - coffee breaks at Maritim Hotels and the Lufthansa Conference Hotel Seeheim will be coordinated in such a way that running into "non-event" persons will be avoided, for example. Fleming's and Lufthansa Conference Hotel Seeheim are also offering hygiene kits free of charge or for sale to their guests and event participants.

Radisson Hotels have also put meeting and event specific security protocols in place and Maritim Hotels have started publishing their COVID-19 specific meeting room capacities in their online brochures for meeting planners. Additionally, latest technology and fast (WIFI) internet connections provide excellent infrastructure for hosting hybrid events.

In-house hygiene labels set new standards

Several well-known hotel chains are cooperating with various inspection, verification and certification organizations to develop their own, in-house hygiene labels. Improved guidelines and hygiene protocols ensure the guests’ safety throughout their stays. One of these labels can be found in Fleming’s Hotels’ Feel Safe Quality Seal, which may also be used by external organizations to certify their own protocols. Additionally, Radisson Hotels have implemented their own Safety Protocol and had it verified by SGS. Radisson also supports the World Travel and Tourism Council’s Safe Travels Protocol. Another hygiene certification example can be found in Accor Hotels’ cooperation with Bureau Veritas.

Most of our hotel partners have also set up COVID-19 related information pages, which offer all of the above mentioned information in its entirety.
